Se montrer &#8220;dur en affaires&#8221; est un lieu commun. Mais cette duret\u00e9 est-elle vraiment efficace dans le monde de l&#8217;entreprise et, singuli\u00e8rement, du management? L&#8217;agressivit\u00e9 et la m\u00e9chancet\u00e9 sont-elles&#8230; des qualit\u00e9s professionnelles? Certains le pensent.<\/p>\n<p>M\u00e9chancet\u00e9 et calcul seraient synonymes, tandis que la gentillesse serait trop souvent assimil\u00e9e \u00e0 la niaiserie, la na\u00efvet\u00e9 et finalement l&#8217;\u00e9chec.<\/p>\n<p>Il convient de s&#8217;interroger sur ce raisonnement, car l&#8217;exp\u00e9rience peut nous conduire sur une toute autre voie. Selon une enqu\u00eate am\u00e9ricaine relat\u00e9e par le <em>New York Times<\/em> en 2012, dont l&#8217;un des objectifs \u00e9tait d&#8217;\u00e9claircir un grand myst\u00e8re manag\u00e9rial: qu&#8217;est-ce qui fait qu&#8217;une \u00e9quipe de travail est efficace?<\/p>\n<p>Apr\u00e8s avoir \u00e9tudi\u00e9 plus de cent \u00e9quipes sur plus d&#8217;un an, les chercheurs en sont arriv\u00e9s \u00e0 une conclusion simple: les meilleures \u00e9quipes sont celles o\u00f9 les gens sont gentils les uns envers les autres. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 elles, les \u00e9quipes seraient plus soud\u00e9es. Commentant ce sondage, un \u00e9conomiste avan\u00e7ait m\u00eame que ce type de comportement faisait gagner plus de 5% de richesse aux entreprises concern\u00e9es! Un revers pour les profils &#8220;aux dents longues&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Tentons de mieux comprendre la probl\u00e9matique que je d\u00e9veloppe \u00e9galement dans mon ouvrage<strong> <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.fr\/7-Lois-du-Changement\/dp\/2501124073\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><strong>les 7 lois du changement <\/strong><\/a>(Hachette\/Marabout).<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00c9craser l&#8217;autre, c&#8217;est jouer perdant<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A quoi m\u00e8ne la m\u00e9chancet\u00e9? En principe, \u00e0 passer devant en \u00e9crasant son voisin, son coll\u00e8gue ou son concurrent. Le hic est que cette attitude semble d\u00e9voratrice d&#8217;\u00e9nergie. Au lieu de sublimer son agressivit\u00e9, on la d\u00e9verse en quelque sorte \u00e0 l&#8217;\u00e9tat brut.<\/p>\n<p>Dans un premier temps, on peut certes obtenir des r\u00e9sultats, en termes de pouvoir ou d&#8217;argent. Mais en mesurant constamment sa puissance sur l&#8217;affaiblissement des autres, le m\u00e9chant risque de rencontrer, \u00e0 la longue, plus dur que lui. En attendant, il vivra -quelquefois inconsciemment- dans la crainte de cette rencontre fatale et cela contribuera \u00e0 exacerber encore son agressivit\u00e9. Ce cercle vicieux n&#8217;est-il pas souvent fatal, comme le montrent quantit\u00e9 de faits divers et d&#8217;histoires tir\u00e9es de l&#8217;actualit\u00e9?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Canaliser son agressivit\u00e9<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>La question centrale pourrait \u00eatre la suivante: comment canaliser une pulsion aussi naturelle que l&#8217;agressivit\u00e9? Il n&#8217;est pas forc\u00e9ment malsain qu&#8217;elle soit refoul\u00e9e. Au contraire. Ce qui compte aux yeux de nombreux sp\u00e9cialistes en ressources humaines est qu&#8217;elle soit intelligemment orient\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<p>Plut\u00f4t que de prendre une forme n\u00e9gative, comme chez le m\u00e9chant, elle semble efficace et positive quand elle se transforme en ambition saine ou en courage tourn\u00e9 vers le d\u00e9passement de ses propres imperfections. Cette ambition non intrusive vis-\u00e0-vis de l&#8217;ext\u00e9rieur et surtout non violente diminuerait le stress, en favorisant l&#8217;estime de soi, \u00e0 travers le regard des autres, apais\u00e9s car trait\u00e9s avec bienveillance. Dans la foul\u00e9e, elle favorise bien entendu les &#8220;renvois d&#8217;ascenseur&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Savoir d\u00e9l\u00e9guer pour se renforcer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Or, pour se d\u00e9passer et accomplir une \u0153uvre collective ou une entreprise qui va au-del\u00e0 de nos capacit\u00e9s personnelles, on a besoin de son prochain et on a donc int\u00e9r\u00eat \u00e0 le valoriser. Cela passe par la confiance, la libert\u00e9 accord\u00e9e \u00e0 nos subordonn\u00e9s et m\u00eame par l&#8217;affection.<\/p>\n<p>Ceux qui r\u00e9ussissent ne sont-ils pas en effet ceux qui savent le mieux d\u00e9l\u00e9guer, s&#8217;inspirer d&#8217;autrui, f\u00e9d\u00e9rer les talents&#8230; plut\u00f4t que de se recroqueviller sur une satisfaction imm\u00e9diate et \u00e9go\u00efste? Comme l&#8217;\u00e9crivait au 19\u00e8me si\u00e8cle l&#8217;\u00e9crivain am\u00e9ricain Mark Twain, &#8220;la gentillesse est le langage qu&#8217;un sourd peut entendre et qu&#8217;un aveugle peut voir&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>En ce sens, c&#8217;est paradoxalement en offrant du pouvoir que l&#8217;on accro\u00eet son pouvoir. C&#8217;est pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment ce qu&#8217;une chercheuse de la prestigieuse universit\u00e9 am\u00e9ricaine Harvard a d\u00e9couvert en \u00e9tudiant les relations interpersonnelles chez Google.
